The landing craft of the LSM class (Landing Ship Medium) were used by the US Navy in the fight against Japan in the Pacific from mid-1944 to land troops and vehicles on enemy beaches. For self-protection some of these ships were equipped with two 40mm Bofors anti-aircraft guns alongside the standard armament.
